BBGM Washington Wizards Update #1

Basketball GM is a browser game where you play as the general manager of a basketball team.
You can import real players and draft classes and play through starting from any era. A player's rookie ratings are based of their stats their rookie year. They develop randomly every year right before the season starts.
I am a part of a discord that plays this game multiplayer by having each member run a team and trade with each other. We started this sim by drafting the entire league in 2011.

Washington Wizards
I am currently the GM of the Washington Wizards in 2016.
From 2011 to 2015 I've made the playoffs consistently. Kevin Martin and 37 year old Steve Nash lead the team until I traded for 31 year old Dwyane Wade to keep myself competitive and hope some other player would turn into a star. Stephen Curry didn't become the guy I needed him to be and "Enes Freedom" was my most promising youth player after some lucky random development.
In 2015 I made it to the conference semifinals thanks to Iso Joe, Dwyane Wade, and Danny Granger. "Enes Freedom" came off his rookie contract and was offered 20M by another team. I chose not to match and he ended up developing very poorly. It was time to blow it all up.
The Wizards traded Danny Granger, Joe Johnson, and D.J. Augustin to the Nuggets for Paul Millsap (PO), Ronnie Price (PO), Jared Dudley (TO), Tim Hardaway Jr., Terrence Jones, a 2016 2nd round pick (became Stephen Zimmerman), and a 2017 2nd round pick.
The Wizards traded Stephen Curry to the Raptors for Elton Brand, a 2018 2nd round pick (OKC), a 2019 2nd round pick (OKC), a 2019 2nd round pick (LAC), and a 2020 2nd round pick.
The Wizards traded Dwyane Wade (PO) and a 2019 2nd round pick to the Jazz for Derrick Favors, Bobby Portis, Royce White, and Christian Wood.
We realize right after trading DWade to the Jazz that the Jazz have our 2017 pick...
2016 into 2017
We go 18 and 64. I draft Brandon Ingram with the third overall pick.
FA Begins before the 2017 season. Teams are in meeting with notable FAs.

- Jrue Holiday goes to Milwaukee
- Kevin Martin goes to Toronto following a sign and trade as the Pelicans did not want to give him a max.
- Toronto instantly puts him up on the trade block.
I am a spiteful GM and I will not tank if I do not have my pick. But it would be silly to give up my future just not to tank for one year.
I miss my opertunity to resign my restricted free agents before open fa. Marquis Teague gets offered a rookie max by a desperate Dallas struggling to be relevant. I let them take the gamble on his development and choose not to match. I do match an 8M offer for Terrence Jones because centers are at a premium in our league and he has promising physical attributes. But before all this happened I decided to step my toes into the trade market.
Before the trades, I had a team full of players under 25 so I could gamble on their development. Although I said they develop randomly in this game, they only develop fully randomly until they are 25. After they are 25 the range that they could develop is determined by their age and their Player Efficiency Rating (PER). Younger players tend to develop positively while older players have to be putting up high efficiency numbers to develop or even remain as good. There is also a small chance for players who are not yet superstars to "god prog" and develop drastically.
My plan in the market was to target older guys on their last year or even guys with a player option. This is so even if they develop poorly this year they're still somewhat productive and then hopefully they go off a cliff the next year and contribute to my tank when I own my pick again. But first I need to make some room on my roster.
The 76ers traded a 2019 2nd round pick (HOU) to the Wizards for Ben Bentil and Christian Wood.
The Clippers traded Yao Ming (PO) to the Wizards for nothing.
The Bulls traded Pops Mensah-Bonsu and a 2019 2nd round pick (DEN) to the Wizards for Yao Ming (PO).
The Washington Wizards signed Rudy Fernández for $1M/year through 2017.
The Washington Wizards signed Mike Miller for $1M/year through 2017.
The Clippers traded Chris Paul (PO) to the Wizards for nothing.
The Rockets traded Rodney Carney to the Wizards for Paul Millsap (PO).
After this the power rankings leave me at around the 10th best team in the east but the gap between 8,9, and 10 is real small. If I prog well I can make the playoffs and ensure the GM who has my pick does not get a lotto.
My starting five is Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Tim Hardaway Jr., Rudy Fernandez, Chris Paul, and Mike Miller.
We shoot the three well enough, lack a bit in passing, barely have enough ball handling, don't have enough perimeter offence, and have absolutely no atheltcism. We are average at rebounding, and have viable albiet unatheltic defense.
Honestly quite proud of what I was able to make out of nothing but many of these players will probably get much worse when we run the development script, just have to hope that out of the ten young players someone develops well.
